Poppy’s Place is inspired by my Poppy, a Massachusetts native and proud Air Force veteran, who brought his love for good food to the small town of Muskogee, Oklahoma, where my grandma was born and raised. Poppy found great joy in feeding others, believing that some of life’s best memories are made around good food and good company. I was his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to drag me around town and show me off. As a little girl, he helped me sell hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies, and together we blazed trails across Oklahoma collecting stamps and making memories. We shared a deep love of country and service, and his example played a major role in my decision to join the Air Force. The values he lived by—hard work, generosity, service, and bringing people together over good food—are the foundation of Poppy’s Place.
As you savor our delicious sandwiches, you’ll feel the warmth of Poppy's hospitality, a trait that left everyone well-fed and happy. Our Story
Meet Poppy
Poppy was a man with a robust personality and an infectious laugh, making him liked by all and loved by most. He had an innate ability to make you feel like you were the most special person in a room full of people. Poppy was full of jokes, often inappropriate, and he was quick to share them! He lived to serve others, often hanging around after an event to help the host make sure everything was cleaned up and put away. Poppy retired from the USAF and then served his fellow veterans working at the Muskogee VA. He was the most loyal supporter, if you had my Poppy in your corner you were blessed.
